Emergency radio coverage that passes inspection, wherever you build.
Black Signaling Systems delivers in-building ERRCS / BDA systems for commercial buildings nationwide, managing survey, design, installation, and testing from start to finish, so firefighters and police can communicate inside your building and your project can move toward its Certificate of Occupancy.
Buildings block radio signals.
Concrete, steel, low-E glass, and below-grade levels can cut off public-safety radio inside a building. When coverage falls short, the local fire authority can hold a Certificate of Occupancy on new construction or require a fix on an existing building.
Across the U.S., in-building radio coverage is typically required through International Fire Code (IFC) Section 510 and NFPA 1221 / NFPA 1225, often with local amendments. Thresholds vary by size, height, and below-grade levels, so the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) sets the final requirements for each building. In El Paso, for example, buildings of roughly 40,000 sq ft and up generally need approved coverage.
Who We Help
General Contractors
Radio coverage tends to surface late, right when the schedule is tightest. We take the ERRCS item off your list and manage it end to end: survey, design, AHJ submittal coordination, installation, and acceptance testing, with the documentation you need for CoO.
Electrical Contractors
ERRCS / BDA is a specialty with its own survey, design, submittal, and test process. Team with us instead of building it in-house. You keep your scope and your GC relationship. We handle the radio system, and we can sub to you or you to us.
Building Owners and Property Managers
Existing systems need annual testing to stay compliant, and renovations or occupancy changes can trigger new requirements. We test, maintain, and recertify your system. Not sure where you stand? An RF survey gives you a clear answer.
How It Works
Survey: Measure coverage against code thresholds.
Design: System design by qualified design partners, with AHJ submittal coordination.
Install: Managed installation of donor antenna, BDA, indoor antennas, cabling, battery backup, and fire-alarm supervision.
Test: Acceptance testing and documentation for CoO.
Maintain: Annual testing and recertification.
Know where your building stands.
If your building passes, you get documentation. If it does not, you get a clear path to compliance.
