ERRCS / BDA Systems in Fort Worth, Texas

Black Signaling Systems is now serving Fort Worth. We deliver in-building emergency responder radio coverage systems (ERRCS / BDA) for general contractors, electrical contractors, and building owners, managing design and installation through trusted, qualified partners. Headquartered in El Paso, we bring a clear, test-first process to Fort Worth projects.

Fort Worth's requirements

The City of Fort Worth has adopted the 2021 International Fire Code with local amendments. Emergency responder radio coverage falls under IFC Section 510, and the city requires compliance with the 2021 IFC and NFPA 1221 / NFPA 1225 for design, installation, and testing.

The Authority Having Jurisdiction is the Fort Worth Fire Department's Bureau of Fire Prevention, also known as the Fire Marshal's Office. The department's published guidance says a radio signal strength test may be required on new construction that exceeds three stories, exceeds 100,000 sq ft, is of Type IA or IB construction, or uses RF-blocking construction or windows. The test is done at substantial completion, or an ERRCS can be installed instead. High-rise construction requires an ERRCS using a distributed antenna system with a BDA. Local requirements change over time, so we confirm them with the FWFD before each project.

How the process works

  • Signal strength test: measured at substantial completion, once walls, windows, and insulation are in.

  • Permit: if a system is needed, it is permitted through the FWFD's online portal with a design plan, floor plans, antenna and BDA locations, and product data.

  • Test before inspection: the FWFD requires signal strength results for the installed system before a fire inspection can be requested.

  • Final approval: once passing results are accepted, the permit moves to final inspection.

We handle each step, from the first measurement through the paperwork.

What we do

  • RF Coverage Survey: signal strength testing and a clear pass or fail picture.

  • Design and AHJ Coordination: design plans through qualified design partners and permit submittal support with the FWFD.

  • Installation: managed installation of donor antenna, bi-directional amplifier, indoor antennas, cabling, battery backup, and fire-alarm supervision.

  • Acceptance Testing and Documentation: post-installation results and documentation for inspection.

  • Annual Maintenance and Recertification: ongoing testing to stay compliant.
